What We Do

When people are hungry, un-educated and dying without any solutions to the very problems that allowed their situation, poverty and despair are bred. Rehostar invests in educational opportunities for children, lasting local-led solutions to famine and in providing work and care for the sick. Rehostar comes along side indigenous leaders so that initiatives may continue without our in-country presence.

Rehostar Scholars

School is the only safe-haven in Rehoboth and the only possible ticket for a way out of poverty. The schools are strong and the education the learners receive is very good. Rehostar believes in investing in the students and the schools to provide the opportunity for future growth of the town. Rehostar Scholars was founded with its first 45 students in January 2008. These 45 children who live in the worst part of Rehoboth (Block E) have had their school fees, supplies, uniforms and exam fees paid for the year (all are mandatory in order to attend school). From grade 1 all the way up to grade 12 across five different schools learners have been empowered and encouraged to achieve academic success and therefore a better shot at a future. Rehostar scholars is an on-going project which also asks graduating seniors to pay the school fees of an in-coming freshman student.

The Farm

Food and work are scarce in Rehoboth, and therefore the will to live and take care of oneself is declining. Our Farm is 2 Hectares of land where locals, George and Anna Marie Dien, oversee crops, animals and a small bakery to serve the town. George and Anna Marie employee men and women with AIDS to work on the farm or in the bakery which serves the schools and the sick.

Blok E Care and Compassion

When people are dying or trying to live with AIDS in an area without health services the struggle is immense. Rehostar focuses on health, food and care for the AIDS infected community. Food rations and hygeine items are provided to families and regular visits are made to lend moral support to the families and the victims.
